How Photorejuvenation Works

PhotorejuvenationPhotorejuvenation involves the use of light based technology which is similar to laser light, but does have some small differences. While laser technology works on one continuous light wavelength, Photorejuvenation works with pulsed light technology. Pulsed light technology utilizes multiple wavelengths of light energy that are delivered onto the treated area through a special laser hand piece. These wavelengths are able to reach underlying skin tissue at all different levels. The laser energy penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by the melanin within the skin, which works to trigger collagen production.

As we grow older, the natural production of collagen within the body decreases. Collagen is a structural protein found within the body that helps to give the skin its shape. When collagen production is reduced, lines, wrinkles, redness, age spots and other ailments begin to form on the face as well as in other areas of the body. Photorejuvenation works to stimulate natural collagen growth within the body.

When our skin is bruised or cut, the body's natural reaction is to produce collagen which helps the skin heal. Photorejuvenation uses light energy to effectively damage the vessels within the skin in order to bring about natural collagen production. As the new collagen forms, patients will experience immediate reduction of facial lines and wrinkles within the targeted area. They will also see that age and sun spots, as well as the redness caused by Rosacea will also begin to minimize and eventually disappear.

Photorejuvenation is safe to use on the face, neck, chest and even hands. Patients will undergo treatments about every three weeks. Treatments will last anywhere from 15 minutes to about a half an hour, depending on the area being treated. During each treatment, the laser energy will be delivered into the skin at different and specific settings so that the light can reach every tissue level. This allows for maximum results. It could take as many as 5 treatments in order for patients to reach their desired outcome, but some have had as many as 8.

Is Photorejuvenation Painful?

Very few patients have experienced discomfort while undergoing Photorejuvenation. If patients request it, anesthesia can be used, but it is not required. Once the procedure is finished, patients will feel little discomfort, if any. The treated area may be red and flushed for a few hours, but the color fades quickly. If patients have pigmented areas treated, like age or sun spots, the areas may seem darker immediately following the procedure. It is helpful for patients to remember that the darker color is only the pigment being brought to the surface of the skin, and it will disappear within a few days.

Photo RejuvenationWhat Are The Results?

The Photorejuvenation procedure can provide long lasting effects. Many patients experience a more overall smoothness and even tone which ultimately leads to a more youthful appearance. Photorejuvenation can aid in the reduction of wrinkles, fine lines, redness related to Rosacea, sun damaged skin and age spots. This procedure is a safe, non-invasive alternative that works to minimize the effects of aging and bring about a healthy, smooth, youthful complexion.

How Much Does Photorejuvenation Cost?

Photorejuvenation treatments can cost up to $500 per treatment, but cost is based largely on the area being treated, the overall condition of the patients skin, the area in which you live and the clinic that you go to. These cost estimates usually only include physicians fees, not any other costs that might be involved with the procedure. Undergoing a consultation before any procedure will allow patients to review all the information and get a better understanding of the process.
